Gzb undertakes survey to identify patchy roads
GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad municipal corporation launched a survey to identify roads in need of repair following the heavy rains in the city last week.
Residents in a many localities like Vaishali, Indirapuram, Rajendra Nagar, Shalimar Garden, Delhi Meerut road, Raj Nagar Extension, Kavi Nagar industrial area connecting NH-9 and Vijay Nagar, among others, said they faced major commuting issues due to broken down patches.
“I go to Indirapuram daily for work and the worst affected stretch is the Ahimsa Khand II where residents are using only one side of an internal road because the other side is closed for repairs. Even the operational side has many potholes. It is difficult for pedestrians and two-wheelers to move,” said BK Pandey, a resident of Vaishali.
“In Vaishali, the bad road stretches are in sectors 2, 3 and 5. More rain will make it worse.”
Jatin Kumar from Rajendra Nagar pointed to a major pothole
near the left turn of the Rajendra Nagar metro station.
“Two-wheeler riders often miss them when they are filled with rainwater and result in accidents. The pothole is at the
roundabout and forces traffic to slow down during peak hours,” he added.
A similar issue dot the roads in Shalimar Garden and its extensions 1 and 2.
“The service road from Karan Gate police post to Shalimar Garden is in a sorry state. Pedestrians and two-wheeler drivers find it difficult to commute. Extensions 1 and 2 besides the road near Ram Manohar Lohiya Park are also potholed at many places,” said Jugal Kishor, resident of Shalimar Garden.
The heavy downpour since Friday night last week led to major waterlogging in many parts for about two days. The corporation has now deployed a team of 44 officers in five zones to monitor and drain water in 13 major affected residential areas.
“We spent ₹3.5 crore on premonsoon repairs. Our teams are conducting surveys to identify those roads that will require more repair, which we shall do in September. We are delaying repairs for now as we expect more rain to fall that could hamper our work,” said MS Tanwar, municipal commissioner.
