India at the Paralympics 1968
The year India made its Paralympics debut, at the Tel Aviv Games. We did not participate in the first two editions, in 1960 and 1964. India competed again in 1972, and then consistently from the 1984 Games.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics have netted India its largest-ever haul at these Games, by far. The previous best was at Rio 2016 and Stoke Mandeville/new York 1984. India won 4 medals in each.

Avani Lekhara

On Monday, the shooter became the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold for India. Later in the week, she also won a bronze. She has another event scheduled for September 5.
Sumit Antil
He won India’s second gold at Tokyo, in men’s javelin, also breaking the world record (multiple times).
Manish Narwal
He won India’s third gold at Tokyo, at the mixed 50m air pistol. Compatriot Singhraj took silver. He had earlier won bronze in men’s 10m pistol.
Pramod Bhagat
He has won India’s first-ever Paralympic gold in badminton. Manoj Sarkar took bronze.
Devendra Jhajharia
Two-time gold medallist with the javelin at previous Games. He won his third medal, silver, at Tokyo, making him India’s most decorated Paralympic athlete.
