IPL REPORT CARD FOR WORLD CUP SQUAD

TRACKING INDIA'S 15 AFTER EACH ROUND OF THE T20 LEAGUE

-

Given how it has gone for some of the Indian players in the UAE leg of IPL, the Indian selectors might be having second thoughts over the squad they picked for the T20 World Cup. In the battle between leg-spinners, the chosen Rahul Chahar has been put to shade by the ignored Yuzvendra Chahal while Hardik Pandya is yet to start bowling. HT takes a look

VIRAT KOHLI

The skipper has hit top gear with back-to-back fifties and turned things around for

RCB with two big wins.

ROHIT SHARMA

Got into groove with a 28-ball 43 for MI versus RCB and also survived a hand injury scare while at the non-striker’s end.

KL RAHUL

The PK skipper’s touch versus

SRH and MI didn’t turn into big scores, dismissed on 21 in both defeats.

ISHAN KISHAN

The explosive batter’s poor run continued and he was dropped against PK after his failure against RCB (9 off 12 balls).

SURYAKUMAR YADAV

His form dip is a big worry. The duck versus PK follows the MI batter’s scores of 3, 5 and 8 in the UAE leg.

RISHABH PANT

The DC skipper and ‘keeper has warmed up with 35*, 24 and 39 in his three games in the UAE.

HARDIK PANDYA

His finishing (40*) versus PK will gladden the India management but his not bowling in two games is a concern.

RAVINDRA JADEJA

The all-rounder has showed consistency, his match-winning 22 (8b) after a spell of 4-0-21-1 versus KKR underlining his value with bat and ball, besides fielding.

R ASHWIN

His T20 bowling stood out in his 1/20 versus RR and 1/24 against KKR with skipper Eoin Morgan’s scalp coming after their spat.

RAHUL CHAHAR

The MI leggie took a wicket and Kohli was dropped but his 4-0-33-1 paled against Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4-1-11-3 for RCB.

VARUN CHAKARAVARTHY

He has put pressure on the first-choice spinners with returns of 0/22 versus MI, 1/22 versus CSK and 0/24 versus DC.

AXAR PATEL

Picked as Jadeja’s back-up, his tight spells (1/27 v RR and 0/13 v KKR) were not complemented by his batting, especially versus KKR.

JASPRIT BUMRAH

Against RCB, dismissed Devdutt Padikkal and then Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers, backing it up with 2/24 versus PK.

BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR

Was effective with the new ball and at the death in SRH’S win over RR and then was steady (4-0-34-1) versus PK.

MOHAMMED SHAMI

The PK fast bowler helped defend 125 versus SRH by claiming the big scalps of David Warner and Kane Williamson (2/14), but he went for 1/42 in the loss to holders MI.
