DEHRADUN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled 35 pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants established under the PM CARES fund across the country, and praised the “double engine” growth of Uttarakhand, saying the Centre has been extending all help to the “new team” in the state to take the hilly region to new heights.

With the state heading to the assembly polls next year, the Prime Minister noted that Uttarakhand, which was carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000, will complete 25 years in the near future and told people that this is the right time to decide where it will be heading.

“Yahi samay hai, sahi samay hai (This is the time, this is the right time),” Modi said during his virtual address.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had recently changed two chief ministers in the state in a short span of time.

Lauding the healthcare sector, Modi said only a few states had AIIMS till six to seven years back but work is underway to ensure that the country’s foremost medical college and hospital is established in every state.

“It is also the goal of the government that there must be at least one medical college in every district of the country,” he added.

Highlighting the efforts made by the government during the Covid-19 pandemic, Modi said: “From one testing lab, we have set up a network of 3,000 testing labs. More than 130,000 vaccination centres have been set up across the country.”

The PM also said that as the demand for medical oxygen increased, India increased production by more than 10 times.

“Every person in the country should know and understand how we met this challenge in such a short time,” he added.
