GREATER NOIDA: Gautam Budh Nagar police arrested a quack and his helper on Tuesday, five days after a 29-year-old woman died after being allegedly given an injection by the suspect in Jewar. On March 31, the woman had come to the quack’s clinic to get herself treated for an illness. After the suspect gave her an injection, she fell unconscious and was taken to a private hospital in Greater Noida by her family members, where doctors declared her dead.

Police said the accused ‘doctor’ and his helper fled the spot after they received the news of the woman’s death. The deceased’s brother filed a case against the ‘doctor’ and his helper at the clinic for killing his sister. The woman’s body was sent for a post-mortem by the police after which it was handed over to her family members.

“We investigated and found out that the main accused was running a clinic illegally, without a licence or certification. He and his helper have been on the run since Thursday. However, after we received a tip-off, they were held from Jewar-khurja bypass road on Tuesday,” said Anjani Singh, in-charge at Jewar police station.

The two accused have been identified as Rajendra Singh, (55), a resident of Palwal in Haryana and Kailash, a resident of Dauji Colony in Jewar. Singh calls himself a ‘doctor’ and has been running an ‘illegal’ clinic in Jewar’s Dauji Colony for the past 30 years, while Kailash has been working at his clinic as a helper since the last five years. “The accused revealed the deceased was taking treatment from him for the last couple of months. Every time she fell sick, she would come to him and he would give her an injection. However, on March 31, the injection had an adverse reaction on the woman, following which she collapsed. The ‘doctor’ and his helper panicked and fled after the woman’s family raised the alarm,” said Singh.
