Govt. Develops Chandkhuri Mata Kaushalya Temple as a Religious Tourist Site
Chandkhuri village, located 27 km from the capital Raipur, is believed to be the birth place of Kaushalya, the mother of Lord Rama. In this village with 126 ponds, the temple of Mata Kaushalya is situated in the middle of Jalsen pond, which is considered to be the only temple in India related to Mata Kaushalya.
The wonderful statue of Mata Kaushalya holding her son Ram in her lap makes this temple a rarity and at the same time, Chandkhuri is believed to be the birth place of Mata Kaushalya hence Chhattisgarh is considered as the maternal home of Lord Ram. Being the only one in the whole of India, the temple of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram’s mother Kaushalya in the holy land of Chhattisgarh is not only rare but also tells about the proud identity of the state of Chhattisgarh. The description of Kosala country, the birth place of Lord Rama’s mother Kaushalya, is also found in the Ramayana. At that time Kosala was divided into two parts, North and South. Dakshin Kosal means present-day
Chhattisgarh, also known as Dakshina Path. According to the Puranas, Kaushalya, the daughter of King Bhanumanta of Mahakosala, was married to King Dasharatha of Ayodhya.
