G Noida students clash over loud music
THE LATE NIGHT SCUFFLE BROKE OUT AT A HOSTEL OF GB UNIVERSITY OVER LOUD MUSIC
A clash broke out between students of the Gautam Buddha University (GBU) and the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida late Tuesday night, police said.
Police said that they reached the spot as soon as they were informed about the incident and took control of the situation. According to the police, they received information about the scuffle that broke out at the Munshi Premchand hostel of GBU under Ecotech-1 police station limits through their helpline number Dial 112, following which police teams were rushed to the spot.
“Our personnel reached the spot and found that the hostel was divided into two sections. Students of GBU have been accommodated in one section, while GIMS students occupied another. During our primary investigation, it was found that some MBBS students of GIMS were partying and loud music was being played on Tuesday night,” said Sarita Malik, station house officer (SHO) of Ecotech-1 police station.
Three GBU students objected to the loud music, police said. “A heated argument took place between the two groups of students, which led to a scuffle.
Later, some more GBU students joined the scuffle and it turned violent. The hostel was also vandalised. Several boarders from both the hostels received minor injuries. Our team along with the university administration reached the spot and the situation was brought under control,” SHO Malik added.
The SHO further mentioned that they have received a complaint from the GIMS administration against the GBU students and a case is being registered. “Further investigations are underway,” she added.
Dr (brigadier) Rakesh Gupta, director of GIMS, said that the institute submitted a complaint against the GBU students. “Though no one was injured, properties have been damaged by the students. In fact, our students are now afraid to come to the hostel and many have left and gone to another temporary accommodation. Since GIMS does not have its own hostel, we have to accommodate our students in the GBU hostel. However, such bullying demoralises students,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Vishwas Tripathi, GBU registrar, said that the clash involved students from both the institutes. “The incident took place at around 11pm. We are yet to identify the students and an investigation is underway. As soon as I received the information, I rushed to the spot and along with police and GIMS administration members; we pacified the students. The two institutes share the same building. We are in coordination with the GIMS administration as well and are trying to identify the students”.
