Will start seeing change on ground in a month, says new G Noida CEO
GREATER NOIDA:: Meerut divisional commissioner Surender Singh assumed additional charge as the new chief executive officer of Greater Noida authority on Wednesday.
After taking charge on Wednesday, Singh--an IAS officer of the 2005 batch--inspected roads, parks, sectors and villages, along with his team, before conducting a detailed meeting with the staff of all departments at the authority’s main administrative building at Sector Knowledge Park-iv.
While addressing the media during the later half of the day, Singh explained his ‘strategy’ of how he plans to change the face of the city, which is being plagued by multiple issues such as late delivery of flats, illegal construction, poor maintenance of parks, roads, sanitation among others.
“You will start seeing the change at the ground in a month because I have given clear instructions to the staff to address the issues of common man on priority,” said Singh. During the meeting with the officials, he pulled up those who did not address issues pertaining to the general public and warned to take ‘stern’ disciplinary action against those who are found
negligent in discharging their duties. He even warned of sending officials to jail if they are found guilty of dereliction of duty after inquiry, said officials who attended the meeting.
“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision is clear-- to work for general public with complete accountability and transparency,” said Singh.
When asked as to how he would address the ongoing disputes of homebuyers and builders and farmers’ long standing
issues, Singh said, “We will list out the issues of every builder, who is undertaking a housing project and address them as per law. As far as farmers’ issues are concerned, I am a son of a farmer, who studied in a village school. No one will understand their issues better than me. I guarantee we will look into each issue and find a way to address them.”
“The city will be expanded and new areas identified for development will be acquired to
contain unplanned growth on the periphery of this city, which is surrounded by Noida, Hapur, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr,” he said.
“We have observed that vacant land of farmers is being used for illegal growth without any planning. Some people are developing illegal housing or warehouses on vacant land bordering Hapur and Bulandshahr. We will contain the unplanned growth and form a special squad, consisting of retired army officers, for the same,” said Singh. He added that the authority will get adequate police support and administration help to act against the ‘land mafia’ indulging in unauthorised construction.
“We will soon identify the illegal construction in each village or sector, make a list and take strict action so that no one dares to carry out illegal construction,” said Singh, who will seek public feedback about initiatives to be taken to make the industrial town a better place to live in.
“There are many senior citizens and intellectuals. We can seek feedback from them and then implement their ideas so that we can work in all areas for this beautiful city,” added Singh
During his inspection in the morning, he found parks are not being maintained by the horticulture department, roundabouts are accident-prone, loose wires are hanging at most places and the infrastructure in many streets across the city is in bad shape.
“If if we look at Noida, we can see a well-planned city with beautiful landscape. We do not get that feeling when we look at Greater Noida. We need to take steps to enhance Greater Noida’s infrastructure. We will redesign all roundabouts and make them safer for commuters,” said Singh.
