NOIDA: Gautam Budh Nagar on Thursday reported 167 new cases of Covid-19, making it the second highest daily tally since infections started rising in early April, behind the tally of 170 cases reported on Tuesday, the district health department said.

Gautam Budh Nagar’s active case load has reached 771 while around 130 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. Nearly 600 cases have been reported this month already, which is much higher than the 53 cases reported in the first five days of April.

According to data from the health department, the third wave of the pandemic started receding in February, and the number of daily cases fell to single digits in March. However, the district began recording an increase in the number of cases on April 12, when 20 cases were reported, and on April 19, the number of daily cases crossed the 100-mark, as 107 new infections were reported.since then, with the exception of a couple of days, daily cases have remained above 100, officials said.

“From our estimate, daily cases are stagnant at 100-125. If it’s much higher, like 160 or more, it is usually because of reports getting bunched together as some labs would have not uploaded their previous day’s reports. Even the average of 100-125 new cases is a bit on the higher side, but we expect them to reduce soon. Additionally, there are no Covid patients in the district who are serious or need hospitalisation. So, there is no need for panic,” said Dr Sunil Sharma, chief medical officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Officials said nine Covid patients are in the hospital as of now, but all for non-covid treatment. Private labs have been instructed by the health department to update the portal with the reports at the earliest.

A total of 4.12 million vaccine doses have already been administered in the district so far. These include 2,27 million first doses, 1.74 million second doses and nearly 100,000 precautionary doses.

In the 12-15 age group , 62,320 shots have been given, which is just short of the estimated 69,000 population in that age group.

Also, 372,000 doses have been given to the 60+ population, 670,000 doses to the 45-60 age group, 2.82 million doses in the 18-45 age group and 164,000 doses to the 15-18 age group.

There are no Covid patients who are serious or need hospitalisation. So, there is no need for panic.
