French artist’s mural to adorn Sec 51 station
NOIDA: Bringing the street art movement from France to India, French mural artist Skio’s latest creation will now enliven Noida’s Sector 51, which is one of the busiest roads in the city. The mural on the Sector 51 Metro station is being created as part of the Wall Art festival of the fourth edition of Bonjour India 2022 --an Indo-french cultural initiative supported and funded by the Government of France.
Talking about his experience in India, Skio (41) said Noida is the 11th Indian city he has visited as part of the initiative.
“I have visited various cities, including Mumbai, Kolkata,
Puducherry and Dehradun, and every city has a different experience to offer altogether. There is a different culture, language and atmosphere in each city,” said Skio.
The well-known works of the artist, who has exhibited his works at numerous festivals all
over the world, including Paris, London, Mexico and Shanghai for the last 20 years, combine geometric shapes and realistic portraits.
Talking about the mural being created at Sector 51 Metro station, Skio said, “I am creating a striking image of a woman covered with geometric patterns here. It is inspired by modern architecture and the use of abstract, geometric shapes. The colours are inspired by India and its fashion. In order to give a stark contrast to the geometric shapes, I have added the face of a woman to make it more organic,” said the Paris-based artist.
The designing of the mural is being led by Skio along with six members from an Indian collective of artists called Wicked Broz. The work on the mural started on Wednesday and is likely to be completed by Friday. An official of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation said permission was granted to the organisation to create a wall mural for Sector 51 Metro station.
