Two men were stabbed to death allegedly by three people following an altercation at Rajeev Nagar in Bhalswa Dairy in outer Delhi in the early hours of Friday, the Delhi Police said, adding that the suspects have been arrested.

Police said that two versions have emerged as reasons behind the attack — the first version was given by a witness from the side of the victims who alleged that the fight broke out after one of the victims refused to share a cigarette with the accused; the second version emerged after some locals told police that the fight broke out after the victims were caught urinating outside the house of one the suspects. The victims were in the neighbourhood as they were attending a wedding party.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh identified the victims as Mohammad Sameer, 21, and Fardeen Alam, 22. “Police received a call at 1.22 am on Friday and a team reached the crime scene. Sameer was already rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital and

Alam was declared dead on arrival,” said DCP Singh. Sameer later succumbed to his injuries at Lok Nayak Hospital.

A case of murder, attempt to murder and common intention was registered under sections 302, 307 and 34 of the IPC at the Bhalswa Dairy police station. The FIR was registered on the complaint of Mohammad Mubin, a relative of Sameer.

Police said that as the suspects were locals, they were identified and nabbed within hours. The arrested men were identified as Abdul Sammi, 19, Vikas Kumar, 20, and Mohammad Arshlan, 20.
