Karan to join Mark Wahlberg at TIFF
In 2006, film-maker Karan
Johar’s (right) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). A decade later, on September 10, he will return to the event to be part of a special talk with the festival’s co-director Cameron Bailey.
“Karan will be part of the ‘In Conversation With’ segment at TIFF, which usually features engaging on-stage conversations with leaders in the film industry and beyond. Only a select few are invited to participate in this segment,” says an insider.
Apparently, this year, Karan will be joined by the likes of Hollywood star Mark
Wahlberg (above), French actor Isabelle Huppert, Brazilian actor Sonia Braga, and Palestinian film-maker and actor Hiam Abbass, among others. “Karan, who is back in India after his tour in the US, has started shooting for a celebrity dance show, on which he is a judge. Although he is going to be busy with his directorial venture and the release of Nitya’s Mehra’s film next month, he is looking forward to attending this event too,” adds the insider.
Karan says, “TIFF is an exceptional platform, as it brings the world of cinema together. So, doing an ‘in conversation’ is an honour for me. I look forward to meeting film-makers and members of the world film fraternity during my stay in Toronto, Canada. KANK was shown in the festival in 2006. Going back means the world to me.”
