New innings for Siddharth

- Prashant Singh

He has been a part of the film industry — as a producer — since the past many years. Now, Siddharth Roy Kapur (right) has been entrusted with a new job — to be the president of The Film and Television Producers Guild of India. On Saturday (September 24), Siddharth was unanimously elected as the next president at the 62nd annual general meeting of the guild.

“Siddharth takes the baton from producer Mukesh Bhatt, who has had a long and illustrious run as the guild’s president. The appointment is effective from January 1 next year. The next few months will be a transition period because a new team will come in place of the current one,” says an insider.

Siddharth’s appointment is significant as the elder members are making way for the younger generation in the guild. “Siddharth has been active on many industry issues for several years in his capacity as one of the guild’s vice-presidents. He has always represented the film industry in the government and industry forums, with perspectives on commercial, regulatory as well as creative issues,” adds the insider.

At the same time, rumours are rife that Siddharth is setting out to establish his own studio next year, as soon as the contract with his current company comes to an end. “The general feeling is that with his experience with both the studio, and now, as an independent producer, Siddharth might be the best bet to lead the guild ahead,” says the insider. Siddharth couldn’t be reached for a comment.
