She started her career in 2010 with Teen Patti. However, Shraddha Kapoor (above) readily admits that her “turning point” was Aashiqui 2 (2013), as “not many people watched” her debut film. Even though she is juggling several projects, the actor says she is enjoying the current phase of her career. In a candid chat with HT Café, the actor talks about her journey, the challenges she faced, and more.

You have completed six years in the industry. Has it been a smooth journey?

I feel ups and downs make you who you are. Yes, my first two films didn’t do well, but my second movie was a niche one. So, it did not get a wide release. However, the real turning point was Aashiqui 2. Many people feel that it was my first film. But, my first movie was one that not many people watched. I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

It seems like you are one of the busiest actors around…

For me, work has never really been work. In fact, I feel restless when I am not shooting or not doing something related to my films. For a year now, I have been practically shooting every single day. So, I look forward to it. Of course, there are days when I am like, “If I can have a little extra time to sleep, it would be nice (smiles).”

Do you feel blessed to have so many projects in hand?

Absolutely, I was waiting for this day since I was a kid. Now that it is happening, I feel blessed. However, I work hard as well. So, both (offers and hard work) go hand in hand.

You are going to play Haseena Parker (Dawood Ibrahim’s late sister) in Apoorva Lakhia’s film...

It is a different role, and a difficult one too. In the beginning, I was like, “Oh God, will I be able to do it?” But, Apoorva sir said, “Trust me, you will be able to do it. I am there.” Now, I am just going with his vision and trusting him, as it is going to be a big challenge.

Have you found your ‘bachelor pad yet?’

I have an apartment of my own, but I am not moving in. I am happy living with my parents. My apartment is walking distance from my family house. It acts as an extra space — a sweet place for meetings and dress fittings, among other things, for my films. I bought it, so that I don’t disturb my parents with my work.

Is it true that your parents are worried about you working so much?

(Laughs) They are okay with me working, but they get concerned sometimes, especially when I come back from shoots at 10pm or 11pm. I also wake up at 5am or 6am. So, they ask me if I’m getting enough rest. I always tell them that I love doing this, and ask them not to worry.

Are you happy with the way things are going, professionally and otherwise?

I wish I had planned this year a little better, with small breaks in between. But it’s okay, since you live and learn. SHRADDHA KAPOOR, ACTOR

I am extremely happy. There are a lot of things to do and to learn. I’m very excited about the current phase of my life. Plus, I am curious about what’s in store. I know things are so unpredictable that even tomorrow, I wouldn’t know what kind of films I will be offered or what kind of a movie I would want to do. I am going with the flow and being grateful every day.

Don’t you feel tired or bored when you do so much work?

No, the only time I feel really restless is when I’m on the makeup chair, and my hair and makeup takes too long (smiles). Then, I am like, “Can we finish it fast please?” On a different note, I wish I had planned this year a little better, with small breaks in between. But it’s okay, since you live and learn. There are no complaints. I feel extremely fortunate to be doing the films that I am doing, and for getting such wonderful opportunities.

The sequel to Rock On!! (2008) is releasing soon. You always dreamt of being cast in it, right?

Yes, it’s surreal to be a part of the film. When I saw Rock On!! eight years back, I told my family, “If a sequel is ever made, I will be in it.” But when something like that really happens, you are like, “Wow, the universe is actually listening to me.” So, it’s definitely a dream come true. I feel extremely fortunate that I have been able to be a part of this amazing team.

You are related to the Mangeshkars. So, does singing come naturally to you?

It’s (singing) something that I am always excited about. I really enjoy it. Also, be it acting, singing or dancing, I want to try and keep bettering myself as compared to what I did the last time around.

Are you doing Golmaal 4 with Ajay Devgn?

That’s not true. After the Haseena Parker film, I haven’t signed anything else. I would love to work with Rohit Shetty sir, but there’s no truth to the rumour.
