‘Everyone’s journey is their own’

For over a year now, rumours about Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother, Ishaan Khattar, making his Bollywood debut have been doing the rounds. Ask Shahid if he is excited, happy or worried about his baby brother, and he says: “I am going through all the feelings put together (smiles).”

While there’s yet to be an official announceme­nt about his debut, the rumour mill started with talk of Ishaan working in Student of the Year 2, followed by rumours that said he’d signed Iranian film-maker Majid Majidi’s next. Then, it was speculated that the 21-year-old would work in the Hindi remake of the Hollywood flick, The Fault in Our Stars (2014), ), with Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara. It’s now being rumoured that Ishaan will star in the Hindi remake of the Marathi hit, Sairat, alongside Sridevi’s daughter, Jhanvi Kapoor. “I have been working for 13 years. Ishaan was nine when I became an actor. He has pretty much spent his entire childhood accompanyi­ng me to my shoots or shows, so he has seen the entire process. He is fortunate to have seen all of this and grown up around it,” says Shahid. The Haider (2014) actor adds that it took him “five to six years to just understand things”. He adds, “But I am sure there is a lot that Ishaan has seen and learnt [from me]. That’s why I feel that he will probably be really good [when he starts working].” Tell Shahid that therthere’s already some excitement­exci about Ishaan due to his lineage, and he ssays: “He is lucky and he should make the most of it. I am sursure he will. But eveeventua­lly, everyone’s journeyjou is their own. IshaanIsh is really forfortuna­te that he is beingbe noticed and gettingge opportunit­ies. He needs to do a great job, which heh will,” says the actor,a who will next bbe seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’sBh Rangoon andd SanjaySj Leela Bhansali’s next film.
