From one diva to another
Actor Sonam Kapoor (far right) has had a great year with her film, Neerja, which has brought her acclaim, accolades, and a couple of international awards. And now that the award seasons have begun, the actor — a front runner for some awards herself — paid tribute to yesteryear’s diva,
Rekha (right), at an awards show that was held last night (December 4).
Apparently, Sonam performed to a medley of Rekha’s popular songs, including ‘Pyar do pyar lo’ (Janbaaz; 1986) and ‘Pardesia’ (Mr. Natwarlal; 1979) at the event. The five-minute performance also saw her sporting looks immortalised by the veteran actor, who is known for her unique sense of style and fashion.
A source says, “When the organisers were looking for an actor to pay tribute to someone of Rekha’s stature, they immediately zeroed in on Sonam. She has proved that she isn’t just glamourous, she is also about substance. She is known to be a fashionista herself, and is probably the only one who comes close to Rekha with regard to style. So, she was the perfect fit.”
When Sonam was working on the 2014 remake of the original Khoobsurat (1980), she had revealed that Rekha was a close family friend, and that she had given her blessings for the film. In fact, Sonam also makes it a point to show all her films to Rekha, as she takes the veteran actor’s feedback seriously.
