Industry kids often follow in their parents’ footsteps. Bollywood and the Indian music industry are loaded with artistes who have followed this trend. Kaveri Kapur, who is film-maker

Shekhar Kapur (right) and actor-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s (who was seen in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa; 1994) daughter, has chosen a similar path. She has ventured into the field of music. The 16-year-old recently released her second single, ‘Half a heart’, on YouTube, and says that the audience has been encouraging of her talent. “I have always been inclined towards music, ever since I was a little girl. My parents have been supportive,” she says. Kaveri adds that British singer Adele is one of her favourite artistes.

Ask her whether being a industry kid has its perks, and Kaveri admits that hailing from a well-known family is an added advantage. “Honestly, the fact that I belong to a wellknown family is an advantage. I wish people who want to do creative things could get opportunities like these,” she says.

Kapur and Krishnamoorthi are divorced and Kaveri stays with her mother. “But it’s hard to stay away from dad,”

My dad and I are very close, and the equation only becomes better as I grow older. I admire that he is so creative.

says Kaveri, adding, “My dad and I are very close, and the equation only becomes better as I grow older. I admire that he is so creative. He’s like my mother in that aspect.”

Kaveri also feels that despite belonging to an influential family, she was never in the limelight. “As far as fame is concerned, my parents have been really protective about me,” she says.
