Emraan Hashmi feels the industry is being transformed by young film-makers
Emraan Hashmi says young film-makers are not afraid of exploring new subjects; adds that the new trend is encouraging.
Emraan Hashmi is currently shooting for a multi-starrer — Baadshaho along with Ajay Devgn. The actor, who has turned producer as well, believes that Hindi cinema is undergoing a metamorphosis.
He feels film-makers today are willing to experiment with subjects and are taking risks. “[That has been happening] at least since the time I have been here. The subjects and the films have gotten bolder. People are exploring different genres, which wasn’t the case when I started out,” says Emraan. He believes that new talent being accepted is a welcome change, and they are bringing a different perspective to movies. “You see a lot of young film-makers who have forayed [into the industry] and proved that a different kind of cinema works [in the Indian context]. That’s great. Bollywood is changing,” he says.
However, it was recently reported that some production houses are going bust. “Yes, that’s true. But [in] both [industries] — be it in Hollywood or in Bollywood — 80% of the films don’t do well. The industry rides on the 20% that does well. You make a film and you hope that your turn will come. So, we all live with that hope of having successful films,” says the actor.
Emraan is also a trained singer. But will he ever sing for a movie? “That was a long time ago, when I was in school. I have not tried it recently. So, I don’t think so (laughs). I won’t [sing for movies] because the expectations will be so high. I am not sure if I will live up to them (expectations) with my voice. But, then again, never say never,” says the Jannat (2008) actor.
