MOVERS AND SHAKERS #2016
’Twas a year of trends and events that shook up the status quo, and brought new developments to the fore
‘HALKA HALKA’ FEATURING AYUSHMANN KHURRANA AND AMY JACKSON
Ayushmann Khurrana was seen in yet another single this year, this time with Amy Jackson. The track, sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, is a romantic one. In its video, Ayushmann is seen travelling across different time zones.
While crop tops ruled the roost in 2015, this year, off-shoulder and cold-shoulder ensembles became a phenomenon.
From pretty tops with ruffled sleeves to red-carpet gowns — off-shoulders were donned by several celebrities like Julia Roberts (right), who looked stunning in a black off-shoulder ensemble, and Katy Perry (left), who chose an all-red ruffled offshoulder sleeve gown for The 69th Annual Cannes Film Festival in France. Back home, Bollywood actors such as Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha (centre), among others, popularised the style at various events, including awards, ceremonies and film promotions.
French actor Brigitte Bardot added a sexy twist to this look back in the 1960s. As designer Jean Paul Gautier created a vintage off-shoulder jacket and Alexander McQueen designed an offshoulder cropped top, the pattern soon started to translate from tops and dresses to jumpsuits, and even bridal gowns. Designer Surily Goel says, “Off-shoulder and coldshoulder outfits are feminine yet flirty.”
According to Goel, women today are more experimental with their outfit choices. “The off-shoulder and coldshoulder trend has become an integral part of fashion over the past one year. From stitched sari gowns with cutout shoulders [cholis] to offshoulder blouses, this trend is chic and flattering,” says Goel. Kajol
