Farah Khan’s ‘no work’ pact with Shirish Kunder

- Kavita Awaasthi

Farah Khan (left) doesn’t believe in mincing words. She has never had any qualms about admitting her faults. The director-producer has time and again mentioned how her directorial Tees Maar Khan (2010) was a wrong decision. The film that starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, was co-produced by her husband Shirish Kunder (right). He edited the film, wrote the story, and co-wrote the screenplay too.

Ask her if she and Shirish want to work again together and she says, “We have come to an amicable agreement that we are extremely happy not working with each other. Our life, as a couple and as parents, is much happier now. When we worked together, there would be a lot of problems. Due to [difference in] creative interests, I fight with my cameraman, art director, etc. and with them you can fight, argue, make up and go home. But fighting with your editor [who is also your husband] and going back home with him is different.”

The couple has been married for 13 years, and came to this decision after a lot of “learning and making rules” (related to work). She says, “We decided on not doing certain work-related things together as it always ends in trouble. We have an understanding. He, too, was happier making his short film, Kriti, without me. I am his best friend, so we talk about each other’s work a lot. However, every time I am editing a movie, I miss him as he is really one of the best editors. I had to sacrifice that for peace at home.”

She is proud of her “funny” husband, who is quite popular for his humour, and has been garnering praise for his tweets. “He is not politically correct, in fact, [he] makes me look politically correct,” says Farah.
