In case you missed it: BAFTAs and Grammys 2017
From Meryl Streep kissing the host of BAFTAs to Adele literally breaking her Grammy award, here are the highlights from the two international award functions
The most beautiful moment on the red carpet of the BAFTAs was when the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton stepped on it with Prince William, making her debut at the award ceremony. Her black gown with printed bouquets didn’t disappoint fashion critics.
Another affable moment during the function was when host Stephen Fry earned a kiss from Meryl Streep for making it clear that he supports her for taking a dig at US president Donald Trump at the Golden Globe Award’s last month.
Dev Patel winning the best supporting actor award at BAFTA remains a highlight for Indians. The actor was also subject to a gaffe made by a fashion label that tweeted a
picture of rapper-actor Riz Ahmed and captioned it as Dev Patel. Not surprisingly, social media didn’t take it too kindly. But the online denizens did revel in the fact that Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield wore matching monochrome outfits.
Some of the noteworthy acceptance speeches included that of Viola Davis (winner of Best Supporting Actress category for Fences), who moved audience to tears when she mentioned her late father, who had worked as a janitor. Ken Loach’s speech after accepting the Best British Film Award (for I, Daniel Blake), had a political undertone when he said “the most vulnerable and poorest are treated by government with a callous brutality that’s disgraceful, a brutality that extends to keeping out refugee children we promised to help...”
BEYONCÉ IMPRESSED EVERYONE WITH HER GRAMMYS ACT, INCLUDING A GRAVITY-DEFYING STUNT ON A CHAIR
Red carpets make for a great runway during award ceremonies, and the 59th Grammy Awards 2017 was no different. While Jennifer Lopez played it safe, Lady Gaga was her usual bold and daring self. From sheer gowns to sequin embellished dresses, the Grammy looks showcased an interesting palette of colours and textures.
