From Kareena Kapoor Khan to Kangana Ranaut, Archana Kochhar’s designs have been worn by several Bollywood celebs. Recently, she launched her menswear collection with Arbaaz Khan and veteran actor Jeetendra sporting her collection. Shah Rukh Khan also walked the ramp for Archana to support the cause of raising funds for pediatric heart surgeries.
With awards such as Iconic Indian of the Year and Anokhi Excellence in Design 2015 (in Toronto, Canada), her achievements have been celebrated across the globe. Archana has also worked on women’s issues across the globe — be it helping tribal women earn a living, or taking up the cause of educating the girl child. She says, “I have helped touch the lives of thousands of children through my work with the Smile Foundation. By using the ahimsa silk fabric in my clothes and even showcasing it at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), I have helped double the income of over 400 women in Jharkhand.”
“My prints are intricate, unique and most importantly, they tell a story. My digital prints are an important part of my collection,” adds Archana.
Most recently, Archana has aimed to redefine what beauty actually means in society. She says, at the (NYFW) last year, a model with a bionic arm, and an acid attack survivor walked the ramp. At the finale of Bangalore Fashion Week, Estelle, a girl on a wheelchair, graced the ramp.
Talking about her journey, she says, “I believe I am a self-made designer with no godfather. I have always tried to do things my way. I have successfully carved a niche for myself.”
