Emraan Hashmi is currently celebrating his birthday in Goa with his family. The actor turned a year older yesterday (March 24), andd although he admits it has been a difficult year, Emraan says that he has every reason to celebrate. “It has been a great year. Personally, in terms of myy family, life couldn’t have been better. My book was receivedved well, and honestly, I was not keen on putting it all on paper, but now I want to thank everyone who pushed me to do it. It was painful, but it was exhilarating,” says Emraan. The actor turned author with his book, Kiss of Life, an autobiographical account of how he dealt with life after his son, Ayaan Hashmi (inset) was diagnosed with cancer.

Ayaan has now recovered completely from cancer, and the doting dad says that he would want his son to read the book when he is older. “He is fascinated with reading, and we have tried to inculcate the habit as a family. Right now, at the age of seven, it is too heavy for him. I would like Ayaan to read my book perhaps in three years, when he is old enough. Surprisingly, he remembers the entire experience,” Emraan says.

Emraan’s book on his son’s battle with cancer might have been tough to pen down, but the actor says that he has only learnt from the experience. “I realised how Ayaan’s resilience changed me. From him, I learnt that it is important to stand after a fall. For a five-year-old, it was physically taxing to go through what he did. Yet, he did it all with a smile on his face. So, when we complain about issues or dwell in self-pity, I realised we should all learn from children,” says the Ghanchakkar (2013) actor.

Talking shop, we ask him if the rumours of him playing a dwarf in a film are true. “I heard about it too but honestly, I haven’t even spoken about any such film. Honestly now, at this point, I don’t mind sitting at home. I don’t mind waiting for a great script. I have made too many mistakes, but I can’t do that now. Initially, it was all about getting the dates and starting a project. Now, the script is of most importance. It is the content that I care about the most. Also, it is a good time for the industry. Though, financially, things haven’t been looking too bright, innovative films are being made. There will soon be a paradigm shift in the way we see films,” he says.
