Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots gets a Mexican remake

Rajkumar Hirani’s (above right) directorial 3 Idiots (2009), which starred Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, has been one of the highest-grossing films in Hindi cinema. The film not only won critical acclaim and box-office success in India, but also garnered popularity in China. Now apparently, 3 Idiots is also being remade in Mexico.

“3 Idiots became one of the few Indian films that have been screened publicly in China since the 1970s and became one of the highestgrossing non-Chinese films. The Aamir-starrer struck an instant chord with the local students, who apparently are quite overworked. Hence, a few Chinese universities, last year, prescribed the film in their coursework as a stress relief technique in their classrooms,” says a source.

Now, 3 Idiots is being remade in Mexico for the Mexican audience. The movie will be named 3 Idiotas, which is a Mexican coming of age comedy-drama directed by Carlos Bolado and produced by Miguel Mier, Bernardo Rugama and Jimena Rodríguez. The Mexican remake will star Alfonso Dosal, Christian Vazquez, German Valdez and Martha Higareda. It is slated to release on June 2, 2017.
