Karan Mehra is all set to welcome his first child with wife Nisha Rawal (inset). “The baby will arrive in a month, and Nisha and I are looking forward to it. It’s a great feeling and we have begun the preparations,” says Karan, who is thrilled that he isn’t doing any TV show currently, and is able to spend “quality time” with Nisha. “It all worked out well. I can be with her now. It is important for us. I was working for eight years on a show, and now I am able to give time to my family.” However, the actor does not want his sabbatical to last long. Therefore, he plans to resume work by the end of June or beginning July.

In the meanwhile, Karan is preparing his home for the baby and overlooking some interior work. When asked, if he knows what kind of a father does he want to be, he says, “One can’t plan how to be as a father. But, I will try my best to be a good dad. Nisha and I will pass on the values we have received from our parents. We will have our own way of bringing up our child and decide what we want to teach him or her. The times have changed, and kids these days are way ahead. I think we were stupid when we were kids (laughs). I would like to be a friend to my child rather than being a strict dad.”

Recently, Karan took up a cameo in the sitcom Khatmal-e-Ishq. He says it was a fun stint, as his previous show was a family drama. “This is the first time I did comedy, and I loved. I am trying to experience different things as an actor. I have been playing roles that are goody-two-shoes for a long time,” he says. “A lot of people wondered how I would pull off comedy. I was surprised too when I was approached. However, I am glad this small role worked out well. People seemed to love it. I am in talks for some projects, but will start working on them after the baby is born. I want to be there for Nisha and the baby as long as possible.”

I will try my best to be a good dad. Nisha and I will pass on the values we have received from our parents.
