After scorching the red carpet at the Cannes film festival, Deepika Padukone is back in the bay. But when she landed in Mumbai on May 20, her look was nothing short of a fashion statement. This isn’t a standalone case though: from Kangana Ranaut’s immaculate dressing to Sonam Kapoor’s nonchalant attires, an increasing number of Bollywood stars are aiming to have their airport looks on point. “The airport is the best place to spot some authentic star style,” says celebrity stylist Sukriti Grover. But do stars make a conscious effort to look stylish? “With the constant spotlight on celebrities — whether they’re at an event, at a restaurant or even at the airport — they are making an effort to look stylish. A lot of them are looking to set a trend with interesting outfits,” says celebrity stylist Bornali Talukdar.

According to stylist Miloni Shah, it is important for celebrities to look stylish and yet not move away from their comfort zone while travelling. After all, they are under the fashion scanner, too. “I do feel celebrities are making a conscious effort to look stylish at the airport, but I don’t blame them. They have so much pressure that they aren’t left with a choice. There are the fashion police and paparazzi, who judge them right from the time they are clicked. It’s literally like one minute they step into the airport, and the very next minute, their photos are everywhere. Also, everyone’s giving their opinion on their clothes,” says stylist Trisha Jani.

(above) funks up the monochrome look with a multi-coloured fringe jacket. A trendy and comfortable option for your next trip to the airport. From casual to chic, the attires vary from star to star. Here are some style tips for the next time you head to the airport:

A pair of ripped black jeans teamed with a T-shirt is a good option. You could also try on a jumper and couple it with a smart jacket, which you can take off the minute you board the flight.

A pair of sunglasses or a statement bag is apt, but throwing on an overcoat or a jacket with an easy pair of sneakers is not only comfortable, it’s also quite stylish. Sunglasses help hide those jet lagged eyes and a hat to cover the slept-on hair look. A pair of leggings or jeggings and a comfy trench coat or jacket will go well with your glasses.

Tight fitted clothes are a big no-no. Keep it effortlessly styled and practically believable, as the runway is short, but the flight isn’t.

Another trendy and comfy look would be dresses (long or midi) paired with a jacket and sneakers or boots.

A semi-formal attire with a blazer and cigarette pants of the same colour creates a balancing effect, with a stylish shirt in a neutral shade.
