With films on Mexican immigrants and climate change, global cinema got its due platform on Day 6

-

The sixth day at the 70th Cannes Film Festival saw former US Vice-President Al Gore take on US President Donald Trump as he promoted his latest film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

He believes that the US will not stop the momentum to tackle climate change and said that there were few reasons for pessimism. The film screened at the festival, is a sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, which is about the perils of climate change. Meanwhile, Austrian director Michael Haneke, who is considered to be the king of Cannes, could take a record third Palme d’Or for his film Happy End.

Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s virtual reality film, Carne y Arena, immersed viewers in fear, chaos and violence that was experienced by migrants, who tried to cross to the United States from Mexico.
