‘I didn’t miss acting at all’

Urvashi Dholakia, who returns to TV after a hiatus, says acting is part of her life; it is not all that she does

- Kavita Awaasthi

Urvashi Dholakia (below) will soon return to the small screen after a hiatus of two years. The actor, who gained popularity with the role of Komolika Basu in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, did a cameo in Badi Door Se Aaye Hai in 2015, after winning Bigg Boss 6 in 2013. She says she was happy “not acting” in the interim and is looking forward to being part of a fantasy fiction show.

Why did you choose to return to acting?

I have a track record of doing something different rather than sticking to the same genre. Different things always appeals to me. I have returned to acting with a role in a fantasy fiction show, as I have never been part of this world. It will be fun to play a queen in a costume drama. It is interesting to work with Ekta (Kapoor; producer) again. We share a great rapport.

The popularity of your role Komolika hasn’t waned over the years. What made it so special?

Ekta’s faith in me and my faith in the show worked. I am humbled with the love I have received from people. Their appreciation for the role is remembered even today, 16 years after the show was aired. I am proud to have played Komolika.

You are vocal on Twitter, and often your tweets, whether it is about body-shaming or the condition of roads, are targeted by trolls. Do the reactions give you pause?

I have never paused for anything in my life. I have never shied away from expressing myself. In fact, I am known for that. I am not demeaning or disrespecting anyone. I am voicing my opinion. Thankfully, I haven’t had a bad experience on social media. I tagged the PMO while tweeting about the condition of the roads. Who else does one approach? To be honest, Mumbai has the worst infrastructure in the country.
