I WANT TO PLAY POSITIVE ROLE: AASHKA
Says Goradia; adds that the positive part of doing a negative character is “people love to hate you”
Aashka Goradia wants a change. In her 14-year-old career, she has been successful with negative roles such as Kalavati in Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Dheer Bai Bhatiyani in Maharana Pratap, Avantika Mahishmati in Naagin and Mahavinashini Pari in Balveer, among others.
Aashka says, “I started off with Kkusum in which I did a positive role. I am glad to have played many positive roles in the initial seven years of my career. Post which, I did negative roles and they got me appreciation. In the end, the biggest high for an actor is getting recognition — keeping the negative or positive aspect aside. But having said that, I feel it is high time I star in a show in which I play a positive role.”
Aashka, who recently appeared on a reality show, shares, “Doing a reality show helped, as the audience got to know the real me. Because of the love I received from audiences during the show, I feel it is the right time for me to play a positive role. Heroism is something people dream, aspire and believe in. After being an actor for years, I aspire to have a show that reflect the real me. I deserve it.”
Aashka is proud that she has played interesting roles that have helped her “grow as an actor”. “In my career, I didn’t get stuck to the fact that I want to play only a lead role. Having said that, at this stage, I don’t mind asking for a lead role in a TV show.” Aashka, who is getting married to her boyfriend, Brent Goble, in December this year, says that she is in a “relaxed space in her life”.
Talking about the positive aspects of playing negative roles, Aashka says, “The positive of doing a negative part in a show is that people love to hate you. They are forced to do that. The most number of awards I have got in life are for my negative roles. There is a joy in playing with those characters, changing it and moulding it, which you can’t do in a positive role. Positive characters remain in defined boundaries. People have had fantastic careers doing negative roles, and I include myself in it. As long as you are able to connect with people, your job is done. There aren’t many cons, except perhaps, brands don’t sign you [for endorsements] due to the image.”
