In a way, I still work for films: Asha Parekh

- Prashant Singh

Asha Parekh has worked in around 90 films, with her last notable onscreen appearance in the 1995 film, Andolan. She hasn’t worked in any films for a long time, but the veteran actor insists that she is still a part of the film industry.

“My hospital (Asha Parekh Hospital) takes up a lot of my time and I am also the secretary at the Film Industry Welfare Trust. People think that I am no longer a part of the industry, but I am still — in a way — connected to it by being a part of various trusts. We also provide so much help – medical and education support — to people in films. So, in a way, I still work for films,” she says. Parekh was the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification and is currently also involved in managing her dance academy.

Recently, Parekh released her autobiography, The Hit Girl. “I think I have written everything. So, all the skeletons are out there (laughs),” she says, adding that she made sure not to name certain people in the book. “It’s because I didn’t want those people’s families to get hurt. That’s how I played a little safe here and there,” she says.

But was it easy to recollect all the memories? “Questions were thrown at me one after the other [during the research], so it took a little time, because I had to recollect everything from the past and then come out with the truth. So I have tried to be as truthful as I can be,” says Parekh, adding that “people have always been very kind and generous” to her.
