‘I was scared about proposing on stage’
Actor Abigail Pande talks about proposing to her beau on national television and how she has “set a new standard”
Abigail Pande is not just a girl in love but someone who doesn’t shy away from expressing it. She proposed to her choreographer beau Sanam Johar on national television. The couple, who were part of a dance reality show, showcased their love via their dance and Abigail took it a notch higher with the marriage proposal.
Sanam says, “She has set a new precedence for girls by proposing to me. And now, I know how girls feel when they are proposed to, because even I couldn’t help but get emotional at that moment. It was the best moment of my life. I forgot that we were on stage surrounded by people as for those moments I could only see Abby [Abigail] in front of me. It was definitely a surprise but I am glad that our parents are also on the same page and want us to be together.”
Abigail who has acted in TV shows like Humse Hai Life, Zindagi Wins and Nagarjun — Ek Yoddha, says, “Sanam always complains that I am not romantic so I thought what better way to show him my romantic side than a proposal. I was more scared about proposing on stage than my performance. I was sceptical about people but later, I thought that since we had declared on TV that we are living together, why not get engaged.” The couple met four years ago and were friends for two years. They later fell in love, and have been in a live-in relationship since the last four months. However, Abigail says there are no immediate plans to get married.
Abigail adds, “We want to focus on our careers and first establish ourselves. We also want to buy a house. We have spoken about marriage and our future. Marriage will happen in a year or so. Sanam is a chivalrous person and I liked him when I met him for the first time. He didn’t want to rush into a relationship when we initially met and was honest about it, so we remained friends. I respected his thinking and I feel being friends helped us understand each other. It has made our relationship stronger.”
