“I leave my personal life at home and focus on work when I am on set,” says actor Vivian Dsena.

Vivian Dsena had a small, private party for his 29th birthday with his family on June 28. The Madhubala — Ek Ishq Ek Junoon actor says he prefers “low-key” birthday celebrations and he wasn’t “feeling too well” as well. In an interview with HT Café, Vivian talks about his physique, his TV show, and why he feels romantic roles are his forte.

You said you were unwell. What happened?

I was under the weather and that’s why I resting at home. My injuries also keep troubling me often. I got hurt while shooting for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Khatron Ke Khiladi. While dancing, I got an inflamed disc, which later got aggravated because I was travelling for four hours for shoots. There was time when I couldn’t work out due to these issues and I couldn’t play football either. I am undergoing physiotherapy.

In an industry where actors are obsessed with six-pack abs and bulging biceps, do you feel the need to be that way?

No. I have never been fond of six-pack abs. You may have never seen me in a shirtless photo. I had six-pack abs when I was 16-17 years old, and I had started my career. I was participating in a modelling contest then. You need that kind of body for that and it helped me then. Abs are not a mandate for actors, neither are bulging biceps, because your performance creates your image. I’d rather not have six-abs than be someone who has six-pack abs but can’t act.

Your ongoing TV show is doing well and the audience loves your chemistry with co-star Rubina Dilaik. What do you do to deliver such a performance?

Being a romantic hero is my forte and people like me in romantic roles. I have to give credit to my co-actors, who bring their flair to the screen, and good chemistry follows.

With your personal life in an upheaval (he has separated from his wife, actor Vahbiz Dorabjee), how have you been dealing with it?

I leave my personal life at home and focus on work when I am on the set. So, it has been okay. Neither of us should be disturbed because of the other. Moreover, I wouldn’t like talk about my personal life.

I’d rather not have six-abs than be someone who has six-pack abs but can’t act. VIVIAN DSENA, ACTOR
