Working with Ekta Kapoor is dream come true: Dheeraj

- Kavita Awaasthi

After a modelling stint and television debut in 2009, Dheeraj Dhoopar is feeling lucky now. He has been part of four TV shows till date. With shows such as Maat Pitaah Ke Charnon Mein Swarg, Behenein and Mrs. Tendulkar to his credit, he is happy to have finally got a break with producer Ekta Kapoor. “I play a star cricketer who has a style, persona and body language of Virat Kohli,” says Dheeraj. “Surprisingly, when I went to Maldives recently, some of my fans there told me that I resemble him and would be apt to play the lead in a Virat biopic. That felt good and little did I know that I would bag the role of a cricketer. Working with Ekta Kapoor is dream come true as I knew that this lady will make me a star.”

Dheeraj gained a lot of popularity while playing Prem for four years in a TV show co-starring Dipika Kakar. He quit the show in March citing “it was time to move on” as his reason. Talking about his exit, he says, “My character was quite famous and the show was a huge success. In November last year, I decided to quit as my character wasn’t going anywhere in terms of performance and storyline. It wasn’t difficult for me to quit as I had thought about it a lot but being surrounded by people who care for you, it gets tough to explain things to them. My parents asked why I would quit a big show. I knew quitting the show was the right choice and I am glad things worked out for me.”
