Deepika’s new ‘royal’ affection

She played the gorgeous Mastani in the 2015 hit, Bajirao Mastani. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus saw Deepika Padukone decked up with elaborate jewellery items and heavy-duty outfits. Thanks to her role in the film, now, she has developed interest in Indian heritage jewellery.

“It all began when she started working in Bajirao Mastani. During the shoot of the film, Deepika had to constantly wear stunning jewellery items. In fact, while shooting too, she used to have elaborate conversations about the designs and the beauty of those pieces,” says an insider.

Now, since she has “developed an interest” in heritage jewellery designs, the actress hopes to have a personal collection of such “royal pieces”. “Deepika is glad that she gets to wear such exquisite jewellery often, thanks to her film projects. Now that she is playing a princess again in her next, directed by Bhansali, she is again taking keen interest in them,” says the insider.

While Deepika couldn’t be reached for a comment, her spokesperson says, “It’s true that through her journey of shooting Bajirao Mastani and now Padmavati, Deepika has developed a fondness for rich heritage jewellery that India has been historically known for. She loves wearing them a lot.”
