Tiger, Nawaz shake a leg!
While critics and viewers consider Nawazuddin Siddiqui to be one of the most talented actors in the industry right now, his dancing skills can’t be called as exemplary. But Sabbir Khan-directed Munna Michael is all set to change that perception to a large extent.
The film’s new song, Swag, will see Tiger’s character, Munna, trying to teach Mahinder Fauji (Nawazuddin) how to dance. “Everything that can go wrong goes wrong in the song’s sequences,” says Sabbir, laughing. The song launches today (July 5).
But how did he manage to rope in Nawazuddin for such a ‘groovy’ part? “When I first thought of meeting Nawaz bhai for the role, I was like, ‘either he will throw me out of his house or will jump at the opportunity’. And the latter happened when he said that rest of the formalities such as the paper work will happen at their own pace, but I am doing the film,” says Sabbir.
After Nawazuddin came on board, he had to go through a number of rehearsals and practice sessions. “The sequences in [the song] Swag look natural, as Mahinder isn’t supposed to be a great dancer,” says Sabbir, reminiscing how he cancelled the shoot for Nawaz’s dancing portions twice “at his requests”.
“Nawaz bhai told me that he could perform better if he gets more time, so I had to agree. But I told him that the shoot can’t be pushed for the third time, as the release date was drawing close. So, we finally shot the song on the third time,” says the director.
