My role affected me emotionally: Sridevi
Debutant director Ravi Udyawar’s Mom starring Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna, among others, releases today. HT Café chats with the cast of the thriller drama to know more about their experience of working on the film. Excerpts:
Sridevi, since you are a mother in real life, did your character affect you personally at all?
It definitely affected me emotionally. I was in a shell. It took me a while to get out of the character. By the end of the shoot, my daughters said “Thank God you are back to being normal.”
Nawazuddin recently said that you are his favourite actor. How was your experience of working with him?
It was wonderful working with Nawazuddin. I’m also a big fan of his work and I’ve watched all his films. He is such a great performer, and to watch him transform into his look and character was such a learning experience.
Nawazuddin, you’re known to pick varied roles. What made you choose this role?
This film gave me an opportunity to work with a legend like Sridevi. When Ravi showed me the look he had in mind, I jumped at the opportunity because it gave me the chance to not only do something extremely different but also look different.
Akshaye, you will be seen on screen after a while. Are you excited?
I’m very excited. Mom finally gave me the chance to work with Sridevi. Nawaz and I are also working together for the first time. Also, I’m always on the lookout for a great script, good people to work with and Mom gave me that opportunity.
