Get ready for massive human vs ape battles: Matt Reeves

The final movie in the current Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy is finally out this Friday. The third movie will conclude the story of the ape Caesar and his war against the oppressive humans. And yes, as the title of the movie would suggest. War for the Planet of the Apes is a war movie.

In an exclusive interview, Matt Reeves, director of War For The Planet of The Apes, says, “Get ready for massive human versus ape battles and a story that leads Caesar into some serious moral conflict. This is a definitive final chapter of what makes Caesar, Caesar.” He adds, “He becomes a leader of great importance in Dawn [of the Planet of the Apes], but this is really where he is in the midst of the war that he never wanted, where he’s pitted against the human army led by the colonel, played by Woody Harrelson. It’s the biggest test for him yet.”

Reeves says that the “war” in the movie isn’t just between humans and apes, it’s the war for Caesar’s soul. For the first time since Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this movie will show Caesar losing his empathy for humanity. “Will he succumb the way that Koba (the antagonist of Dawn) succumbed, or will he be able to transcend that and become this seminal figure in ape history?” asks Reeves.

The early reviews for the film are out and the film has been acclaimed. The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval. Reeves will also be directing the upcoming Batman movie.
