Ridhima is not worried about being typecast

- Kavita Awaasthi

Iam not a funny person in real life at all, that’s the feedback I get from my family and friends,” says Ridhima Pandit talking about her relationship with comedy, adding, “which is why I am surprised to get back-to-back comedy projects”.

She started her career in TV with the show, Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, where she played a robot, who becomes a beloved bahu. She is currently seen in the comedy show The Drama Company (TDC). “I have been told that in front of the camera, I have a comic timing which works with the audiences. The makers of TDC had approached me earlier too for another show but playing the lead in a daily soap means you work for 35 days a month (laughs). After the show ended, I was looking to sign something else. There were a lot of offers, and I thought if I refuse everyone, no one will give me work. I am glad I got this good offer and took it up.”

Ridhima is thrilled about her new show as it allows her “to play various characters” and unlike her TV show, this is slapstick comedy. “I can let go on stage and because we don’t have retakes, at times it is nerve-racking too. Very few actresses get the opportunity to do a nonfiction show so early in their careers,” she says.

Ask her if she worries about being slotted as a comic actor on TV and she says, “I love comedy but I don’t want to do only comedy, all my life. I have got a lot of love from my audiences for my projects. I have just started my career and there is a lot that I want to do. There were many TV show offers wherein I didn’t have a comic role. I was offered a cop’s role, a love story, a fantasy drama and mythological too. I feel there are many good roles on TV but not enough actors to play them. I am not worried about being typecast.” Ridhima adds that she is working on a Marathi film as well as a web series.
