‘I think I have matured as an artiste’

Ananya Birla, who has collaborated with Mood Melodies for her second international single, talks about her music, her new collaboration and Eminem, among other things

Her debut single, ‘Livin’ the life’ went on to become a hit and she is already enjoying the release of her second international single, which was out recently. Ananya Birla is excited about ‘Meant to be’, which is an electronic pop genre number. It is produced by Anders Frøen, who is better known as Mood Melodies.

Ananya says, “My sound has evolved a lot. I would say it’s in the electronic pop genre. I think I have matured a lot as an artiste. My new song has more of myself as I was able to give a lot more of my own creative input. It was truly a great collaboration with Mood Melodies. The concept is very candid. There are two people who think they are meant to be with each other but cannot. However, who knows what the future holds. A music video can be made on your own. Many things don’t have a reason and I truly believe that such things are just meant to be.”

Ananya draws her inspiration from everyday life experiences, emotions and people around her. “I believe it is important to move out of one’s comfort zone and to experience new things in order to be inspired constantly and be at one’s creative best. Eventually, it is all driven by emotions.”

She thinks the country has lot of talent, whether it is budding singers or veterans like Lou Majaw. “I think it’s [English music] growing at a rapid pace. I hope to reach a point where I get credibility internationally and that I am able to facilitate young Indian talent on an international platform.”

She is currently spending most of her time in the studio; writing and recording songs and churning out a lot of new music. She will be releasing another single by the end of the year. Talking about her idols, she says, “Eminem is my musical idol not only because of his talent but also because his music is authentic. He has the courage to be vulnerable.”

Any plans on singing for Bollywood films? “No, I think in English. Therefore, it’s easier for me to write lyrics in English. I believe it is very important to write your own lyrics in order to feel the song and for it to reach the listeners.”
