My brothers forget that I’m a famous person: Parineeti Chopra

- Monika Rawal Kukreja monika.rawal@hindustantimes.com

Actor Parineeti Chopra might not be able to meet her younger brothers — Sahaj (24) and Shivang (22) — to celebrate Rakshabandhan, but that doesn’t affect the bond they share one bit. In fact, Parineeti was 17 when she left home to study in the UK, and she’s never been with her brothers for the festival since then. “All of us are in different parts of the country. I’m in Mumbai, Shivang is studying in Pune and Sahaj is working in Ambala, so the last time we were together for this festival was in 2006, when I was living in India,” she says.

Stating that they need not be in the same room to celebrate the festival, Parineeti says, “We talk to each other and video chat. I make sure that my rakhis reach them, and it’s the time of the year when I spoil them, so I send them traditional gifts and money as well.”

Asked if her status as a celebrity has affected their relationship, the actor says it’s funny how her brothers often forget that she is a star. “They always tell me how their friends are like ‘oh you are Parineeti’s brother’, and they’d be like ‘We forget that are you a famous person and the world knows you’. When my brothers talk to me or scold me, or whenever I’m crying or I need to talk about my life, me being an actor does not matter,” she says.

She adds that she confides in and talks with her brothers about her life more than she does with her parents. “I talk to them almost every day. They know everything about me; my personal life, my relationships, all the gossip, my love life, my financial problems... they know every single decision I’m making before the world knows about it.”

When my brothers talk to me or scold me, or whenever I’m crying or I need to talk about my life, me being an actor does not matter. PARINEETI CHOPRA, ACTOR
