Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekarstarrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (TEPK), which deals with the issue of open defecation in our country, releases today. The film, directed by Shree Narayan Singh, is a love story between Keshav (Akshay) and Jaya (Bhumi) set in two villages near Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) and takes a satirical look at the issue.

Speaking about working with Akshay Kumar in multiple projects, KriArj Entertainment’s Arjun N Kapoor says, “Our equation with Akshay sir is phenomenal. We first worked with him in Rustom (2016) and now we are working with him on TEPK and Padman, so we now have a better understanding. Every film has a different set of challenges, but he gives very good inputs. He has been around for so long and he brings a great deal of ideas to the table. Working with him is always a good collaboration.”

The film, which is also being promoted heavily on social media, has been appreciated for its innovate promotional strategies. Kapoor says that they took on the subject because they wanted to deal with a relevant issue while entertaining viewers at the same time. “We wanted to promote the film in unusual and quirky ways. Our audience is mature enough to deal with issues like these, so we went all out. We didn’t want any shame to be associated with open defecation, so we didn’t look at it like it was a taboo. This is a relevant topic that matters to the country, and we were sure that we wanted to produce this film,” he says.
