AQUA TRAINING — A NEW DIMENSION TO FITNESS
Water sustains us in more ways than one and now it is even being incorporated into fitness regimens. And not just regular swimming, but aqua functional training which was a special workshop conducted as part of the Hindustan Times Fitter Mumbai initiative at the Gold’s Gym, Vashi.
Rupesh Jadhav, fitness trainer who conducted the workshop, extolled the benefits of aqua functional training, “it helps in body stability, strength, cardiovascular endurance and body conditioning.” Training in the water is perfect for almost anybody, including nonswimmers, as it reduces the stress on joints which usually is the main stumbling block for people who are obese or have arthritis. Exercising against the resistance of the water helps you burn more calories and trying to maintain your balance in the water even strengthens the core.
Rupesh spoke about the workshop and said, “The Hindustan Times Fitter Mumbai is a good initiative and helps make people aware of the different techniques and workout methods that they can do as per their interest. The important thing is to make time for fitness in your daily schedule.”
One of the participants, Moulik Gala, an engineer, who works out on a regular basis, was surprised by the aqua functional training workshop. He says, “It was very exciting as water boosted our core and I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. It was good to try something new and I’m glad that the Hindustan Times Fitter Mumbai initiative gave me the opportunity to do aqua training for the first time.”
