I can’t cook, but I’m a foodie: Aamir Ali
The actor, who will soon launch his own restaurant in Mumbai, says the venture is not about making money, but his passion
Aamir Ali is excited about his new project, but the actor isn’t talking about an acting role this time. He is currently preparing to launch his own restaurant in Versova, Andheri (W). The Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls actor says, “It’s my first restaurant, and we will feature Indian food. I always wanted my own restaurant, but never got around to doing it. So when this business opportunity came my way, I took it up. This is just the start.” Aamir says he has been working on the venture for ten months and “didn’t want to start something for the heck of it”.
Many celebrities have entered into partnerships for various business ventures, as they prefer to have a second source of income. Aamir admits that while money was a motivation, he maintains that it’s about more than that. “I believe in exploring and applying my mind to new things. I am not doing this just for income, but because I want to expand my horizons. I am primarily an actor and I love acting, but I don’t want to be restricted to just that. I might even explore another avenue tomorrow. Right now, I am on a break, and I won’t say I get offers for TV shows every month. I have worked in decent shows, so I am looking for something extraordinary. I will return to TV if I have that kind of mind-blowing role.”
Aamir has joined hands with a well-known chef, who will oversee the restaurant’s operations. “I don’t know anything about running a restaurant, and I don’t want to quit acting to focus on the business. I can’t cook at all, but I am a foodie and love to explore different cuisines. I don’t drink or smoke, but I love to eat out. My favourite cuisine is Indian — I love biryani, chicken, mutton, paneer and kebabs, but I judge any restaurant by its dal. If the dal is good, then it’s a hit.”
