I want to direct a feature film: Kush

- Pooja Sharma pooja.sharma@hindustantimes.com

For Kush Sinha — son of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and brother of actor Sonakshi Sinha — entering the film industry was a natural progression. He recently directed a short film on blood donation with actors Aparshakti Khurana and Kajal Aggarwal. “When I met Kajal and Aparshakti, they didn’t ask any question about their roles. The moment Kajal heard the story, she was game for it and Aparshakti was happy to be a part of a good cause,” says the director.

The young director believes in giving a social message through a film without compromising on the entertainment quotient of it. He says, “There’s a thin line, and at times, it’s difficult to get it right. In this film, we were fortunate because the script was in place. Also, the actors played their role perfectly, did justice to the characters, and thus we were able to deliver the message.” However, this is just the beginning. Kush intends to direct full-length feature films in future.

“My ultimate goal is to direct a film. I think in today’s environment, in the manner the industry is progressing, there are a lot of channels and online platforms that one can explore. We’ve many avenues, which is great for young directors. It is a great time.”

Ask him if receives advice from senior Sinha on filmmaking and about life in general, and Kush says, “He says whatever you do, do it with honesty. When he came from Bihar, he was a normal person from a middle class family and had no connections in the industry. The reason he succeeded is because he gave his best and that’s what he tells me to do always.”
