Sushant does his bit for education

The actor is providing counsellors to schools to help students make good career choices

Not many know that Sushant Singh Rajput ranked seventh in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination and completed three years in engineering college before dropping out. However, the actor has always understood the importance of education, which is probably why he has started the ‘Sushant 4 Education’ programme.

A source says, “Through this programme, the actor hopes to develop a sense of learning in young minds, as he believes that education is the key to a healthy nation. One of the initiatives under the programme aims to provide career counsellors to schools to help students make good career choices.”

Apparently, despite his busy schedule, Sushant will be meeting school principals and selecting trained counsellors, who will visit a few schools in the city on a weekly basis. “So far, counselling sessions have already begun in two schools — St. Elias High School and SS Sahney High School,” says the source.

It’s believed that when Sushant announced the initiative on social media, over a hundred applications from counsellors were received. The source says, “Sushant has already shortlisted two of them, and they have started visiting schools. Next on the agenda is installing projectors in certain schools to make subjects more interactive by bringing in the visual medium.”

Since a majority of the kids from these schools are first-generation learners, the actor’s intention is to ensure that students are informed about the different kinds of careers available to them so that they can make the “right choices according to their aptitude”.

When contacted, Sushant confirmed the news, saying, “My mother always taught me that we educate our children not to become a doctor or engineer, but because the impact of education reflects on their thought process and decision making ability. This is a very small step and I am sure it will bring excitement and encouragement to the children.”
