The acting profession is very uncertain : Mohit Malik
The actor says good work is limited in the entertainment industry and the wait between projects is getting longer. He also talks about two of his TV shows begin shelved
Actor Mohit Malik has been part of hit TV shows including Doli Armaanon Ki (DAK), Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya and Phulwa. The actor, who debuted 12 years ago, has faced an unlucky streak as two shows -Khoon Bhari Maang and Rajan Shahi’s Yaariyan - that he was working on got shelved and that proved to be a setback for Mohit. “I had shot for the pilot and was hopeful that they will go on air. It has been a bit unlucky phase for me but I feel whatever happens
is for the best. I lost out on good projects while waiting for this one. But if I think like that I will go to depression (laughs). It’s unfair that actors invest so much time on a project and learn one day that it got shelved. Somewhere, I regret it too but I have to move on. I can’t keep thinking about the past.”
While acting is his passion, Mohit also realises that a steady income enables him to focus on projects he wants to choose. He owns a café with his wife Addite Malik who was always passionate about running one. “Having another source of income always helps as the acting profession is very uncertain, like I experienced two of my shows getting shelved. I have accepted that fact. For survival, I needed an option and that’s why the café. I am thankful to have a partner like my wife, who is passionate about running the café and wants to open more such spaces.”
There were rumours that Mohit might be doing a film down South. “Nothing is confirmed yet,” he says, “Movies are on my mind but I don’t want to do films just for the heck of it. I wouldn’t want to be part of an erotic thriller as I am not compatible with the genre. I’ve seen many TV actors are doing such movies. But I would like to refrain from that. I want to do films to act not to show my body (laughs). I don’t want to do everything that comes my way. I want to do roles that challenge me as an actor and I don’t get bored. My last show DAK was unlike how I am in real life, so it was fun to play that part on TV. Good work is limited but I don’t mind waiting, though, sometimes you have to wait too long.”
