Sourabh’s fascination with mythology
After 13 years as an actor, Sourabh Raaj Jain, who has been part of hit shows such as Remix, Kasamh Se and Uttaran, among others, is better known for playing God on TV. He has essayed the role of numerous Gods in TV shows such as Jai Shri Krishna, Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev and Mahabharata, among others. While any other actor might feel stereotyped playing similar roles, Sourabh doesn’t. “A role is a role is a role. I have been playing different Gods on TV and these roles are different, and more difficult than playing a husband or a lover in a typical daily soap. I don’t feel stereotyped at all. I feel elated with the kind of work I get because I am doing what I love to do, which is acting.”
Talking about his experiences, he says, “After playing Lord Shiva, I played Lord Krishna, which is a rare opportunity for any actor. Both Gods are different in appearance and in character, and the response for both was fabulous. I loved playing Krishna in Mahabharat as the character had layers and depth. It transformed me as a person too as it was an enriching experience. Playing Lord Shiva in my current show is also fulfilling as an actor.”
Though Sourabh gets offers for family dramas as well but he feels he has “been there done that”. “The scale of mythological shows is such that all the other shows that I have done look smaller in comparison. In reality, such shows are tougher with respect to normal shows. One even takes longer to get ready and wear the accessories and costume for such shows.”
