Actor Arshad Warsi says he is not a very competitive person

Arshad Warsi, who has just had a new release, Golmaal Again, is known for his impeccable comic timing. The actor, who has played varied roles in his career, says that he would like to play certain kinds of characters in the future. “As for roles, I don’t think I am ever going to be satisfied. I hope that somebody would come up with Jolly LLB (2013) kind of film. I enjoy working on such films. But there is nothing in particular that I’m thinking of right now,” he says.

However, from all his roles, Arshad says his character Babban from Ishqiya (2010) remains his big favourite. “I love that character. He is so not me. He is over-the-top and crass. It was fun playing him. You want to play roles that are different like Circuit from Munna Bhai series.”

On this note, ask him about the current status of the third instalment of the Munna Bhai franchise, and he says, “I recently met Raju (Rajkumar Hirani; fim-maker) at a charity foundation. I think only post Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, will this film commence. The story is locked and it’s a fabulous idea. People will love it, and it’s very relevant.”

Arshad has worked in about six films with actor Sanjay Dutt. On his equation with the senior actor, he says, “We do talk on the phone. He always checks up on me and I do too. When I meet his family, I make sure that I ask about him.”

So after enacting so many characters in myriad films, does he feel secure at this stage in his life and career, or does he yearn for more? “I think that depends on a person’s nature. I’m not a very competitive person, and it’s okay not to be one. I have got my priorities set. For some people, their lives are only driven by success and being number one, earning the most, etc. But you’ve to make sacrifices [for that]. It doesn’t come easy. You’ve to choose your life. Whether you want the family scenario to be a mess and achieve only goals or have a work-life balance. For me, good investment is investment in my family. Subconsciously, each one of us ends up going where we actually want to. I am the kind of person who would own a farm house next to a lake and have horses. So to each his own. The longest I’ve not worked out of choice is for about eight months. I said no to two films. I wanted to spend time with kids because there is no limit to greed. And you end up missing so much in life.”
