Katrina keeps it ‘real’

- Prashant Singh

Historically, spies have always been considered stylish, intelligent and gritty. The same also holds true for Katrina Kaif, who reprises her role as a super spy in director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai. In fact, for the role, Katrina spent time preparing with real-life intelligence agents to make sure her character appears “real and natural.”

A source says, “Katrina plays an elite intelligence agent in the film. So, for example, if she is adept at hand-to-hand combat, she is also equally good at adapting herself to new mannerisms [depending on the situation]. So the whole idea was to keep the treatment [of her character] realistic while focusing on gritty and hardcore action.”

While working with professionals, Katrina was trained in “various nuances of body language, mannerisms and other minute details”. Ali says that since the actor plays a spy, it was essential for her to understand how such agents think and operate. “That’s why we got Katrina to train with real agents and used their expertise and experience,” says Ali.

Citing an example, the director says intelligence agents have to train in a certain way to “keep their mental balance in the direst of situations”. He adds, “Katrina really pushed herself for the part. She went the extra mile to train in several important nuances such as aggressive hand-tohand combat. That’s why the action she has performed looks very real [on screen] despite being on a grand scale,” he adds.
