Vidya, as Sulu, is winning hearts

-

Some actors portray their on-screen characters so well that they get etched in the minds of the audience. Vidya Balan is one such performer. In her 12-year film career, she has lent credibility to her reel avatars such as Lalita (in Parineeta; 2005), Sabrina (No One Killed Jessica; 2011), Silk (The Dirty Picture; 2011) and Vidya Bagchi (Kahaani; 2012).

Now, Vidya as Sulochana aka Sulu, in her upcoming film Tumhari Sulu, is winning hearts, going by the teaser, trailer and songs of the family entertainer.

“Families and youngsters have fallen in love with the quirky, fun-loving and enterprising housewife who aspires to add purpose to her life. Women of all agegroups relate spontaneously to Sulu’s balancing act of managing her daily homemaker existence and career of a night radio jockey,” says an industry insider.

With the film, Vidya has shifted gears from dramas to a comedy that’s high on content. And, she’s poised to be ranked among the most-loved female characters in Bollywood, like Basanti (Hema Malini in Sholay), Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra from Barfi), Geet (Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jab We Met), Shashi (Sridevi from English Vinglish) and Tanu (Kangana Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu), among others.

Writer and director Suresh Triveni says: “Sulu stands for the undying spirit of millions of homemakers. Vidya’s portrayal of Sulu will set a benchmark in terms of performance and nuances, and remain one of our most favorite characters in cinema.”

Tumhari Sulu, produced by T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment, releases on November 17, 2017.
